SEBI plans to add another Executive Director (ED) to the already existing seven posts of ED. The regulator plans to recruit a Chief Economist at the position of an ED, and a proposal has been put before the board for approval.

The Chief Economist would be in charge of the Department of Economic Policy and Analysis and support the senior management with research inputs on economy and policy.

He would lead a team of professionals to carry out and promote economic research and analysis with special emphasis on the securities market, and publish reports and studies.

Incumbents with masters in Economics or Finance from a reputed university (preferably with a Ph.D) with 20 years of relevant work experience along with five years in a similar position in a leading organisation would be considered, said the proposal.

The incumbent should also have published a reasonable number of research papers and should have strong communication and leadership skills.

The chief economist would be recruited on contract for a three-year term with compensation and benefits applicable to an Executive Director in SEBI, said the proposal.

The proposal indicated that the SEBI chairman may be authorised to implement the decision of the board in this regard.
