Some 26 per cent of the year’s second largest offer of 15.87 lakh kg at Sale No: 17 Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction remained unsold despite prices dropping by ₹1.40 a kg for want of bidders at higher prices.
Only Homedale Estate entered the high-price bracket of ₹200/kg among the CTC teas. Its Pekoe Dust grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the CTC market when GLT Enterprises bought it for ₹205.
Darmona Estate tea, auctioned by J Thomas and Co P Ltd, topped the Leaf auction fetching ₹183. Hittakkal Estate got ₹167 and Ambukal Estate ₹166.
In all, 69 marks got ₹125 and more. Kairbetta topped orthodox teas from corporate sector fetching ₹240 followed by Havukal ₹236, Kodanad ₹189, Prammas ₹184 and Chamraj ₹180.
