Only fifty per cent of the turmeric was sold on Monday at Erode markets due to quality. “Only medium variety turmeric arrived for sale. Of the arrival of 4,000 bags, only 1,990 were sold. The price of the spice was also not improved due to quality. The buyers quoted ₹8,500 a quintal of fine variety Salem Finger turmeric. The traders purchased all the 30 bags of such fine variety,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety turmeric was sold at ₹4,648-7,512 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,399-6,809. Of the arrival of 1,443 bags, 290 were sold.
