Spot turmeric sales declined in Erode markets on Wednesday following slack upcountry orders. Of the 1,400 bags that arrived for sale in the four markets, only 50 per cent wassold. RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, said that sales and prices in all sale centres across the country were poor. Already, traders in North India are holding huge stocks. “Still fine and superfine varieties are available only in Erode, so we may get few orders for quality turmeric,” he said.At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹3,809-6,086 a quintal and the root variety ₹3,509-5,515.
Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,206-6,211; the root variety ₹5,098-5,677. Of the 210 bags on sale, 67 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,201-6,011 and the root variety ₹4,999-5,889. All the 323 bags found takers.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,473-6,189 and the root variety ₹4,764-5,569. Of the 349 bags on offer, 287 were sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,289-6,180 and the root variety ₹4,789-5,893. All the 164 bags were traded.
