Only 50 per cent turmeric stocks were sold on Thursday.

“Though the price of the turmeric was increased by ₹100 a quintal, the sales were very poor with 45-50 per cent of the arrived 4,300 bags due to the non-receipt of upcountry demand. Fine variety root turmeric arrived for sale in the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard and all the bags were sold. The buyers were showing keen interest in buying the quality turmeric to keep them in stock to sell the same if they receive good demand from North India which they are expecting by mid-July,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

The price of the finger turmeric was up ₹200 a quintal in the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association and also in the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society. But it was down ₹100 in the Regulated market Committee.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric traded at ₹5,409-8,209 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,351-7,209. Of the arrival of 945 bags, 310 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,319-7,541; the root variety ₹6,299-7,309. Of the 647 bags on sale, 634 were traded.
