Only 45 per cent turmeric placed for sale was sold on Monday.

“For want of proper upcountry demand, the traders of Erode procured just 45 per cent of the spice. Further, only medium and poor quality turmeric arrived for sale and so the traders purchased limited stock to fulfil their local orders,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

Of the arrival of 3,500 bags, 1,590 bags were sold for decreased price. The finger variety turmeric decreased by ₹100-150 a quintal in all the markets and the root variety by ₹100.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,199-7,809 a quintal and the root variety ₹5,089-7,199. Of the arrival of 904 bags, 323 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹6,369-7,349 and the root variety ₹6,199-7,269. Of the 449 bags on offer, 439 were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,294-7,400; the root variety ₹5,909-7,209. All the 766 bags found takers.
