Nearly 81 per cent of the offer at Sale No: 49 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association was sold despite the average prices rising to ₹78.37 a kg from the previous week’s ₹75.22 because of increased winter demand from upcountry buyers and select exporters. The Broken Orange Pekoe grade from Darmona Tea Factory, auctioned by J Thomas and Co. P Ltd, topped the leaf grade auction and the entire CTC market fetching `266 a kg. This was the sixth consecutive week of Darmona Tea topping the market. Homedale Estate’s two leaf grades, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at₹256 and ₹253. In the CTC Dust tea auction, two grade of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹216 and ₹213. Among orthodox teas, Chamraj topped at ₹277 a kg followed by Kodanad at ₹247. All other teas got less than ₹200.
