As many as 67 brands of bought-leaf factories have fetched at least Rs 5 a kg more than the average price of Rs 60.14 a kg at the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association in calendar 2010, shows an analysis of the latest information available with Tea Board.

Aravenu-based Darmona Tea Industry topped the list. “Our Darmona Estate Speciality got an average price of Rs 185 a kg – as much as Rs 125 more than auction average for the year. Darmona Estate brand fetched an average of Rs 131.34 – about Rs 71 more than the auction average,” Darmona Managing Partner, Mr Dinesh Raju, told Business Line .

Vigneshwar Estate Speciality got Rs 157.50, Sree Ram Supreme Speciality Rs 150.32, Sree Lakshmi Estate Speciality Rs 143.19, Hittakkal Speciality Rs 139.31 and Shanthi Supreme Special Rs 136.13.

In all, 22 marks got more than Rs 100, eight marks Rs 90-99, nine marks Rs 80-89, 18 marks Rs 70-79 and 10 marks Rs 65-69.

In the current year, Vigneshwar Estate Tea Factory, Aravenu, has created a record, fetching South India's all-time highest price of Rs 290 a kg for CTC tea from bought-leaf factory in a commercial public auction.

“This happened at the wall-less speciality tea auction. This week, in the Coonoor auction, our four grades of speciality teas topped. Our Broken Orange Pekoe Fanning (BOPF) topped CTC market fetching Rs 169 a kg followed by Broken Pekoe (BP) at Rs 168. Our Pekoe Dust (PD) topped dust market at Rs 165 followed by Super Fine Dust (SFD) at Rs 160. Our teas also fetched the next two top prices in dust market. In all, our 13 grades got Rs 103 and more,” said Vigneshwar Managing Partner, Mr Ramesh Bhojarajan.
