Copper moved up by 0.21 per cent to Rs 438.70 a kg in futures trade today as speculators created positions, supported by pick up in demand at the domestic spot markets.
Covering up of pending short positions also supported the recovery in prices at futures trade. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in June gained 90 paise or 0.21 per cent to Rs 438.70 a kg, with a business turnover of 520 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in April traded higher by 80 paise or 0.18 per cent to Rs 433.45 a kg, with an open interest of two lots. It closed 0.11 per cent lower at Rs 437.80 a kg in the previous session.
Analysts said apart from pick up in spot demand, covering up of pending short positions, also influenced prices.
