Cotton prices dropped in Erode markets despite lower arrivals as the quality of arrivals was poor.
“Only 80 tonnes of cotton arrived at the Bhoodapady, Anthiyur and Sathyamangalam markets as against the usual 2,000 quintals,” said Krishnasamy, Superintendent, Bhoodapady Regulated Market Committee.
Bt cotton fetched ₹4,810-5,200 a quintal, ₹300 lower than last week’s price. The Surabi variety cotton also fell by ₹900 and it was sold at ₹5,300-5,600. All the 80 tonnes on offer were sold.
