The wheat market witnessed a mixed trend on Thursday — prices of dara wheat ruled firm while prices of desi wheat continued to see a downtrend.
Recent rainfall has affected harvesting; the crop has been laid down by the storm and rain, said Mr Sewa Ram, a wheat trader. Traders expect that the harvesting may be delayed by another week, he added. Last year the crop was in the market on April 1 but this time it may come around April 10, said Mr Ram.
Wheat prices have dropped by Rs 20-25 a quintal while flour prices have decreased by Rs 45-50 for a 90 kg bag this week.
Dara variety ruled at Rs 1,170-1,180 a quintal. The finer quality was around Rs 1,185 a quintal. Mill delivery was around Rs 1,175-1,785 and it traded at Rs 1,185-1,190 a quintal in the retail market.
In the desi wheat varieties, tohfa variety dropped further by Rs 20 to Rs 2,330-2,350 a quintal, doodh malai dropped by Rs 15 and was quoted at Rs 2,300 a quintal while the aaj tak variety traded at Rs 2,320 a quintal.
Flour Prices
Despite a steady trend in wheat prices, flour prices continued to decrease by Rs 5-10 to Rs 1,160-1,165 for a 90 kg bag. Chokar prices ruled firm at Rs 540 for a 49 kg bag.
