Hybrid turmeric price improved on Friday on higher demand, especially from exporters, and quality.

“Traders, mainly exporters purchased the hybrid turmeric for quality quoting a higher price. They bought all the 200-and-odd bags that were up for sale. The hybrid variety quoted touched Rs 7,817 a quintal, the highest in the last few month.

“Similarly, exporters purchased quality turmeric by quoting a higher price,” said R.K.V. Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

He said that for the past few days, local traders have received orders from North India and the bulk buying exporters purchased huge stocks to meet the upcountry orders. They are expecting further orders.

Meanwhile, the arrival of new turmeric crop has increased. On Friday, 1,800 bags arrived for sale. Of the arrival of 5,580 on offer, 3,219 were sold.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the new finger verity was sold at Rs 4,019-6,599 a quintal; the root variety at Rs 3,965-5,699.

The old finger variety was sold at Rs 4,319-6,767, the root variety at Rs 4,139-5,935.

Salem hybrid crop: The finger variety was sold at Rs 6,617-7,817; the root variety at Rs 5,735-6,017. Of 1,645 bags put up for sale, 821 found takers.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger variety was sold at Rs 5,499-6,631; the root variety at Rs 5,373-5,989. Of the 777 bags that arrived, 736 were sold.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety was sold at Rs 5,239-6,918; the root variety at Rs 4,950-5,996. All the 689 bags got sold.

At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety was sold at Rs 5,508-6,812; the root variety Rs 4,828-5,989. All the 138 bags were sold.
