Improved demand from millers at lower rates coupled with rise in futures on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) perked up spot chana by Rs 50-60 a quintal. On Wednesday, chana soared to Rs 2,300-2,310 a quintal, because of the futures market where chana April contract closed Rs 40 higher.

After almost a week-long holiday in mandis across the State, chana witnessed renewed buying interest from millers.

According to trade sources, enforcement of stock limit of chana and other pulse seeds in Rajasthan from 1,000 quintals to 5,000 quintals may prompt traders in Madhya Pradesh and other States to build stocks. Then, chana may rise, despite bumper crop in Rajasthan and harvesting of pulse seeds in the country which is expected to touch 17 million tonnes this year, according to the Government's estimate. Rise in chana also pushed chana dal by Rs 25 with chana dal (bold) in the spot quoted at Rs 2,925-2,950, chana dal (medium) quoted at Rs 2,800-2,850 and chana dal (average) quoted at Rs 2,700-2,725 a quintal
