Prices of hybrid finger turmeric increased on Wednesday in Erode markets following the arrival of quality produce.

“Suddenly super fine hybrid finger turmeric and fine variety hybrid root arrived for sale. Traders procured all the 250 bags that arrived by quoting a higher price,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

Some traders have received fresh upcountry orders for hybrid and also other varieties, so after verifying the samples, they quoted higher price and purchased a good number of bags. Some traders have received local demand from grinding units, so local traders procured some bags. Of the total arrival of 2,000 bags that arrived, 70 per cent was sold.

He said that merchants and exporters in North India are keeping good stock of turmeric with them and hence are placing minimum orders. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹3,516-6,199 a quintal; the root variety ₹3,496-5,699.

Salem Hybrid: The finger variety fetched ₹5,695-8,579 and the root variety ₹5,489-5,920. Of the 623 bags that arrived, 231 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,444-6,250 and the root variety ₹5,001-5,858. Of the ₹441 bags that arrived, 387 were sold.
