Mentha oil prices fell by Rs 6 to Rs 1,059.20 per kg at the futures trade today as traders indulged in profit-booking at existing higher prices amid a fall in spot market demand.

Adequate stocks following increased arrivals from the producing belts in Uttar Pradesh also put pressure on the prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, mentha oil for delivery in May declined by Rs 6 or 0.56 per cent to Rs 1,059.20 per kg with a business volume of 58 lots.

The oil for delivery in June shed Rs 3.10 or 0.32 per cent to Rs 956 per kg with a business turnover of 27 lots. Similarly, April contract moved down by Rs 1.60 or 0.15 per cent to Rs 1,073.40 per kg with an open interest of 20 lots.

Traders attributed the fall in mentha oil prices to profit-taking by speculators due to fall in demand at the spot market.
