Prices of old and new turmeric have decreased slightly, but the sale of new turmeric crop was brisk. “Over 3,000 bags of new turmeric crop that arrived at the Erode Turmeric Merchants sales yard and Regulated Marketing Committee were sold for a reasonable price,” said Mr R.V. Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, on Tuesday.

He said, “Erode traders are getting good local orders and are buying the crop in bulk. The prices range from Rs 11,000 to Rs 12,500 per quintal.”

He said, from next week, there will be heavy arrivals of new crop in the market and the market also expects heavy sales. In the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, finger variety new crop was sold at Rs 11,699 to Rs 14,214 a quintal, root variety Rs 11,230 to Rs 13,876 a quintal. The 1,280 bags that arrived were sold. Finger variety old crop fetched Rs 9,400 to Rs 14,819 a quintal. Root variety fetched Rs 9,200 to Rs 14,144 a quintal.

In Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, finger variety was sold at Rs 12,869 to Rs 14,619 a quintal, root variety Rs 10,610 to Rs 14,119 a quintal. All the 83 bags that arrived were sold.

In the Regulated Marketing Committee, finger variety was sold at Rs 13,569 to Rs 14,266 a quintal and root variety Rs 13,089 to Rs 13,414 a quintal. Out of the 846 bags that arrived, 636 bags were sold.
