Weak arrival and higher demand have lifted prices of majority of pulses and pulse seeds in Indore mandis over the past two days. With demand from millers outstripping arrivals, chana (kanta) on Tuesday rose to ₹2,900-2,925 a quintal, while chana (desi) ruled at ₹2,600.
Compared with last week, chana is up ₹100. According to Sanjay Agrawal, a local chana trader, the outlook in chana has turned bullish.
Rise in chana also lifted its dal with chana dal (average) on Tuesday being quoted at ₹3,000-3,150 a quintal, chana dal (medium) at ₹3,300-3,500, while chana dal (bold) ruled at ₹3,700-3,800 a quintal. Compared with last week, chana dal is ruling ₹100 higher.
On the other hand, slack domestic and export demand dragged dollar chana with prices in local mandis on Tuesday being quoted at ₹4,500-5,000 a quintal (down ₹200 from last week). Arrival of dollar chana in local mandis was recorded at 2,500-3,000 bags against 8,000-9,000 bags in mandis across Madhya Pradesh. In container also dollar chana ruled stable on slack export demand with dollar chana (42/44 count) today was quoted at ₹5,576-5,600-35, 44/46 count at ₹5,375-5,400-25, 58/60 count ruled at ₹4,460-75, while dollar chana (60/62 count) with 7.2 per cent moisture was quoted at ₹4,350-75.
Weak arrival and higher demand also lifted moong and urad in local mandis by ₹150-200 a quintal in the past two days with moong (bold) being quoted at ₹7,500-7,700, while moong (medium) ruled at ₹6,500-6,700. Similarly urad (bold) rose to ₹4,600-Rs 4,700 (up ₹200) with its arrival not catching up with demand. Urad (medium) ruled at ₹3,700-4,000.
