Spot turmeric prices edged down on Tuesday due to want of demand.
“Medium variety hybrid finger turmeric arrived for sale and traders purchased all hybrid finger and root varieties at a lower price. The hybrid was down ₹200 a quintal. Further, only medium and poor quality turmeric arrived for sale,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
The hybrid finger turmeric lost ₹200 a quintal at ₹7,929. Of the 4,100 bags that arrived, 2,410 were sold. Traders expect arrivals to rise in a couple of days.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,199-6,585; the root variety at ₹4,063-6,429.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety ruled at ₹5,817-7,929; the root variety ₹5,511-6,699. Of the 862 bags on offer, 141 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,521-6,529; the root variety ₹5,574-6,574. Of the 929 bags put up for sale, 625 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric quoted ₹5,699-6,636; the root variety ₹5,656-6,689. Of the 841 bags that arrived, 840 were traded.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,681-6,639 and the root variety ₹5,369-6,442. All the 214 bags found takers.
