Sluggish domestic demand pulled the prices of dara wheat down by Rs 30 a quintal while the desi varieties managed to maintain their previous levels amid tepid selling. On Thursday, Dara variety ruled at Rs 1,190-1,200 a quintal against the levels of Rs 1,220-1,230 quoted at the beginning of this week. For the finer quality, it was around Rs 1,210 a quintal. Mill delivery was at around Rs 1,200 while it traded at Rs 1,210-1,215 a quintal in the retail market.

Just around 200 quintals of dara variety arrived from Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. After witnessing a drop at the beginning of this week, desi wheat managed to rule steady. Just around 250 quintals of Desi wheat arrived at the Karnal grain market terminal.

Tohfa variety ruled at Rs 2,360-2,380 a quintal; Doodh Malai at Rs 2,320-2,330 a quintal while the Aaj Tak variety traded at Rs 2,350 a quintal.

The demand of flour has dropped drastically in last few days which in turn affected the prices of wheat, said Mr Sewa Ram, a wheat trader. FCI has increased the quota of BPL and APL card holders and that is also a reason behind the decrease in demand, he added.

Flour Prices
