The price of spot turmeric decreased by Rs 400 a quintal on Monday.
“The spot turmeric price, despite of medium arrival showed a decrease of Rs 400 a quintal in Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, but increased by Rs 150 a quintal in Erode Turmeric merchants market,” said Mr R.K.V. Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric merchants Association, on Monday. “The bulk buyers are getting meagre fresh orders from Bihar, so the buyers are purchasing required quantity.”
The price of the turmeric remains unchanged in other markets at Sangli and Nizamabad, so no trader is quoting high price for the commodity in Erode. Some fluctuations were seen in prices in the local markets.
Quality goods arrived in Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, fetching good price. But the prices remain unchanged in regulated market. The arrivals were poor at 278 bags. Out of total arrivals of 5,200 bags on Monday, 55 to 60 per cent were sold.
Turmeric farmers said this year also the spice has been sown over 10,000 acres and the arrival of the commodity in January will be very high. The farmers said that they are still waiting for a good price for the commodity and are confident that they will get the price in August end or September.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, finger variety was sold at Rs 5,110 to Rs 8,039 a quintal, root variety at Rs 4,869 to Rs 6,569 a quintal.
Salem Crop: Finger variety was sold at Rs 6,999 to Rs 8,699 a quintal, root variety Rs 6,319 to Rs 7,035 a quintal. Out of arrival of 1,837 bags, 230 bags were sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, finger variety was sold at Rs 5,610 to Rs 8,239 per quintal, root variety Rs 5,319 to Rs 6,769 a quintal. All the 78 bags arrived for sale were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, finger variety fetched Rs 5,810 to Rs 7,689 a quintal, root variety Rs 5,333 to Rs 6,726 a quintal. Out of arrival of 660 bags, 635 bags were sold.
At the Regulated Marketing Committee, finger variety was sold at Rs 7,209 to Rs 8,114 a quintal, root variety Rs 5,938 to Rs 6,657 a quintal. Out of 278 bags arrived for sale, 229 bags were sold.
