Spot turmeric price improved by Rs 200 a quintal on Tuesday, but there was no increase in sales. Sales at the Regulated Marketing Committee were good, but failed to lift prices.
?North Indian traders will buy a good amount before Holi , as during the festival, sales in North India go up. Traders in Erode, who have ample stocks, are fulfilling orders from North India, and are buying limited stocks. Because of this, the sales were low in Erode,? said Mr R.K.V. Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
He said, ?Futures prices rose by Rs 300 to Rs 400 a quintal on Tuesday, which reflected in the local market where prices improved by Rs 200 a quintal.? Further, in Nizamabad, over 16,000 bags were sold on Monday with prices remaining stable there. So the local merchants quoted Rs 200 a quintal more than what they quoted on Monday. Over 14,000 bags arrived for sales ? half of them were sold.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger variety sold at Rs 8,299-11,741 a quintal and the root variety at Rs 8,009-10,959 a quintal.
Salem Crop: The finger variety fetched Rs 12,225-13,389 a quintal and the root variety Rs 10,989-11,409 a quintal. Out of the 4,237 bags that arrived, only 869 were sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety was sold at Rs 10,188-11,826 a quintal and the root variety Rs 7,311-10,969 a quintal. All the 91 bags that arrived were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety sold at Rs 10,168-12,356 a quintal and the root variety at Rs 9,670-11,139 a quintal. Out of the 725 bags that arrived, 524 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger variety fetched Rs 10,698-11,829 a quintal and the root variety Rs 10,689-11,090 a quintal. All the 829 bags that arrived were sold.
