Wheat market continued to tumble on account of sluggish demand. Prices of dara wheat variety dropped by Rs 15-25 a quintal and ruled at Rs 1,260-1,270 a quintal against Rs 1,285 levels it quoted at the beginning of this month.

Mr Subhash Chander, a wheat trader, told Business Line that the market may continue to witness the slackness. With the start of April month, new wheat of Haryana will be in the market while the produce of Madhya Pradesh will hit the market by February end, he added. There is not much demand of dara variety and traders are not interested in buying of desi wheat at present, he said.
Desi wheat is out of stock and traders are offloading their stocks of dara variety quickly as they have to nil their stocks before March 31. Around 300 quintals stock of dara variety was offloaded by the local stockiest, on Thursday.
