About 83 per cent of the teas offered for Sale No. 23 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association was sold with the average price crashing to ₹ 93.43 a kg – the lowest so far in calendar 2019. It was, in fact, the lowest price since November 2 last year.
Homedale Estate Red Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the entire auctions when Pooja Trading Co bought it for ₹253 a kg.This was higher than the price of all teas including the orthodox teas, mostly exported, from corporates.
Homedale Pekoe dust grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ₹241a kg.
In the leaf auction for CTC teas, Homedale Estate’s tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹217. No other CTC tea, dust or leaf, entered the high price bracket of ₹200/kg.
Among the orthodox teas, Chamraj topped at ₹245 a kg followed by Havukal and Kairbetta at ₹210 each.
