A volume of 20.22 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 46 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association with Leaf auctions scheduled for Thursday and Dust auctions, on Friday. This is some 55,000 kg more than the offer of last week. Of this, 13.15 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 7.07 lakh kg, dust grades. As much as 18.76 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.46 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 79,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 12.36 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 67,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 6.40 lakh kg, CTC. Darmona Estate Broken Orange Pekoe Small grade, auctioned by J Thomas and Co., created a new price record last week fetching ₹300 a kg – all time high for this grade. Four grades of Homedale Estate’s teas, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, fetched ₹259, ₹223, ₹220 and ₹217. In the orthodox market, Kodanad topped at ₹263. All others got less than ₹200/kg.
