The auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association for calendar 2017 will end on Friday with the completion of Sale No: 51. A volume of 5.84 lakh kg of Dust Tea will be offered for sale on Friday. This comprises 5.20 lakh kg of CTC and 64,000 kg of orthodox.
This, together with 8.80 lakh kg of Dust Tea, takes the total offer in this final sale of the year to 14.64 lakh kg. Of this, 8.80 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 5.84 lakh kg, dust grades. As much as 13.25 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.39 lakh kg, orthodox variety.
The Broken Orange Pekoe Small grade from Darmona Tea Factory, auctioned by J Thomas and Co. P Ltd, topped the leaf grade auction and the entire CTC market last week fetching ₹280 a kg. This was the seventh consecutive week of Darmona Tea topping the market. Homedale Estate’s Broken Orange Pekoe Fanning, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ₹230. In the CTC Dust tea auction, Homedale Estate’s Pekoe Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹251.
