The average price at Sale No: 30 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction crashed to ₹87.47 a kg – the lowest in any sale in 2016 so far. It was some ₹3 less than the previous week.
Nevertheless, about 16 per cent of the 17.53 lakh kg offered in remained unsold for want of demand. Buyers complained of a reduction in quality.
The Red Dust of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the Dust auction as also the entire CTC market at ₹184/kg closely followed by Super Red Dust of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, at ₹183. In the Leaf Tea auction, Homedale Estate’s Broken Orange Pekoe, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹165. In the orthodox market, Chamraj topped at ₹232/kg followed by Kodanad, Havukal and Kairbetta at ₹200 each.
