The stoppage of truck service to Karnataka from Tamil Nadu affected the movement of tea from the Nilgiris to Karnataka and beyond. Notwithstanding this, the demand from upcountry buyers was focussed resulting in average prices rising to ₹101.28 a kg — the highest in six months — and over 90 per cent of the 10.66 lakh kg being absorbed.
Homedale Estate’s Pekoe Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the Dust auction and the entire CTC market when Bardia Bandhu bought it for ₹206 a kg. Homedale Estate’s Red Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed it at ₹200. In the CTC Leaf market, Homedale Estate’s Broken Orange Pekoe Fanning, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹171. In the orthodox market, Chamraj topped at ₹ 256 a kg followed by Kodanad, Kairbetta and Havukal at ₹200 each.
