A volume of 10.15 lakh kg has been catalogued for the last sale of this month — Sale No: 33 of the auction of Coonoor Tea Trade Association which will conclude on Friday. This is as much as 1.56 lakh kg less than last week’s offer. It is also the lowest offer of the last 10 weeks. Of this, 7.08 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 3.07 lakh kg, dust grade.
As much as 8.99 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.16 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 68,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 6.40 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 48,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 2.59 lakh kg, CTC.
