The traders have received fresh upcountry demand for the turmeric. “They have procured 4,000 bags on Thursday as against the arrival of5,200 bags in the four markets. Most of farmers are keen in buying the medium variety turmeric and as usual they have purchased all the 200 bags of Salem Turmeric by quoting increased price”, said R KV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association. The price of the finger turmeric was increased by ₹100 to ₹200 a quintal while the root variety by ₹200 a quintal.
At the Erode Turmeric merchants Association Sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,499 to ₹7,809 a quintal, root variety was sold at ₹5 319 to ₹7299 a quintal. Of the arrival of 1600 bags 960 bags were sold. At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,888 to ₹7,949 a quintal, root variety was sold at ₹6,777 to ₹7,319 a quintal
