Firmer trend continued in pepper on Friday with the spot and futures contracts moving up further. Non-availability of pepper because of sellers withdrawal is pushing up the prices. Buyers were there for high range pepper at ₹690 a kg but sellers were asking for ₹700, market sources told BusinessLine. There were neither any arrivals nor any off take on the terminal market. However, 21 tonnes of exchange released pepper probably purchased earlier were reportedly being moved out by rail and 16 tonnes by truck to Delhi, they said. Spot prices increased further by ₹100 a quintal to ₹66,400 (ungarbled) and ₹69,400 (garbled) a quintal. December and January contracts on the IPSTA went up by ₹1,000 each a quintal to ₹71,000 and ₹63,000 a tonne. Export prices was at $10,800 a tonne c&f for Europe and $11,050 for the US.
