Nearly 91 per cent of the offer at Sale 23 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association was sold despite the average price rising to ₹99.70 a kg from previous week’s ₹95.55 due to increased demand.

A small-scale bought leaf factory, Homedale, topped the auctions when its Super Red Dust grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, was bought by Jaykay Enterprises for ₹266 a kg. This was the highest price among any tea at this auction.

In the CTC Dust market, Vigneshwar Estate’s Pekoe Dust grade, auctioned by Paramount Tea Marketing Pvt Ltd, followed when Shriji Traders bought it for ₹200.

In the CTC leaf auction, two grades of Pinewood Estate topped at ₹220 and ₹219 each. Among orthodox teas, Kodanad topped at ₹256 and Kairbetta followed at ₹228.

The demand from upcountry markets was uneven as the traders in those States where Covid-19 cases are large are yet to come back to regular operation.
