Jeera prices fell sharply by 2.41 per cent in futures trading on Thursday as traders indulged in reducing their positions amid fresh arrivals in the spot markets.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in April traded Rs 426, or 2.41 per cent, lower at Rs 17,251 per quintal, with an open interest of 17,994 lots.
Similarly, jeera prices for delivery in March fell by Rs 410, or 2.38 per cent, to Rs 16,790 per quintal, with an open interest of 9,936 lots.
Market analysts said off-loading of positions by traders, driven by increased arrivals at mandies, mainly weighed down jeera futures prices here.
