There has been a marginal increase in the prices fetched by Indian teas at the auction centres in the country in calendar 2017 over 2016. It rose 0.75 per cent, from ₹118.27 a kg in 2016 to ₹119.16 in 2017. Tea prices up to February in North Indian auctions averaged ₹120.12 a kg against ₹122.13 in the same months of 2016. In the same period, upcountry buyers stepped up their purchase at southern auctions, and the prices rose from ₹107.36 in 2016 to ₹114.93 in 2017.
