Chana gained slightly on improved demand from millers and weak arrival. It rose Rs 5-10 at Rs 2,280-2,285 a quintal. With higher arrival, chana prices in the past one month have declined by Rs 150-155 a quintal. Moreover, at current levels, demand for chana continues, a trader told Business Line . Chana (desi) quoted Rs 40 higher at Rs 2,240 a quintal and chana (mausmi) remained firm at Rs 2,300-2,400 a quintal. Chana arrival in local mandis were 2,000-2,500 bags.

Chana dal ruled steady with prices of chana dal (bold) on the spot quoting at Rs 2,900-2,950 a quintal, chana dal (medium) quoted at Rs 2,800-2,850 and chana dal (average) quoted at Rs 2,700-2,750 a quintal. Tur, which had gained on Tuesday, saw a decline on slack demand. In the spot tur (Maharashtra) was quoted Rs 25 down at Rs 3,775 a quintal. Tur (red) and tur (Nimari) remained steady at Rs 3,650 and Rs 3300-3,500 a quintal. Demand in pulses, however, remained subdued as the India-Pakistan cricket match kept buyers and sellers away from the market. Closure of the current financial year that ends on Thursday was another reason for slack trading as both buyers and sellers are interested in trading in the new financial year.

Urad, moong and masoor also remained steady on subdued demand and lack of buying. Urad quoted at Rs 4,300 a quintal and urad (medium) quoted at Rs 3,500-3,700 a quintal. Urad dal remained firm with urad (mongar) quoted at Rs 6,800-7,000 a quintal, urad dal (bold) quoted at Rs 6,000 a quintal and urad dal (chilka) quoted at Rs 4,900-5,000 a quintal.

Rise in domestic demand perked up dollar chana or chickpea by Rs 100. In the spot, it was quoted at Rs 4,600-4,900 a quintal.
