A volume of 19.51 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 47 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction to be held on Thursday and Friday.
This is as much as 1.65 lakh kg more than the volume offered for last week’s sale.
Of the 19.51 lakh kg, 17.94 lakh kg is ofCTC variety and only 1.57 lakh kg is of the orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox tea continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the former, only 98,000 kg is orthodox while 11.53 lakh kg is CTC. Among the dusts, only 59,000 kg is orthodox while there is 6.41 lakh kg of CTC variety.
Homedale Estate’s Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings leaf grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the entire CTC market last week when PS Industries bought it for ₹243 a kg. Another grade belonging to Homedale as well followed at ₹220.
In the CTC Dust tea auctions, Homedale Estate’s Pekoe Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹238. Two of its other grades followed at₹236 and ₹226. Two grades of Darmona Estate, auctioned by J Thomas and Co., fetched ₹201 each.
