Spot turmeric prices increased on Friday but there was only 40 per cent sale.

“The traders were buying little quantity of turmeric by showing keen interest on good quality to store them. No traders received fresh upcountry demand. Further, on Friday, 5,000 bags of medium variety turmeric arrived for sale and 2,010 bags were sold,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

On Friday, the finger turmeric was up ₹400 a quintal in the Regulated Market Committee and the root variety by ₹100. In other markets, the finger turmeric increased by ₹100.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,766-7,919 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,565-7,108. Of the arrival of 1,361 bags, 470 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,614-7,675; the root variety ₹6,399-7,039. Of the arrival of 1,310 bags, 699 were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric went for ₹6,299-7,348; the root variety ₹6,089-7,108. Of the arrival of 1,522 bags, 1,512 found takers.
