Spot pepper continued to stay steady despite tight availability in the market. Much of the material available is either of farm grade low bulk density pepper from Karnataka or that mixed with Kerala pepper, trade sources told BusinessLine. Small lots are coming and such small volume from Rajkumari (Idukki) was being traded at ₹640/kg while the high range material was traded at ₹635. Semi-processed pepper was sold at ₹630. On the terminal market, 88 tonnes of pepper arrived. Spot prices remained unchanged at ₹61,000 (ungarbled) and ₹64,000 (garbled) a quintal. On the IPSTA, June, July and August contracts moved up by ₹500 to ₹66,000 a quintal each. Export prices were at $10,450 a tonne c&f for Europe and $10,700 for the US.
