Pepper prices were steady on Tuesday on limited activities and bearish sentiments. No trading activities were reported on the regional and national exchange platforms. Rumours of imports continued to hog limelight and they, in turn, have led to a drop in upcountry demand. Meanwhile, Karnataka which is estimated to have produced 12,000-14,000 tonnes of pepper this year was offering at ₹670 a kg. On the spot, 21 tonnes of pepper were traded at ₹660, ₹670 and ₹680 a kg depending upon the quality and area of production. Spot prices were steady at ₹66,000 (ungarbled) and ₹68,000 (garbled) a quintal. Export prices also stayed unchanged at $11,500 c&f for Europe and $11,750 a tonne c&f for the US.
