After three weeks of rising prices, there was a slight slump at this week’s auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association. At Sale No: 16, average prices dropped marginally to ₹94.17 a kg from previous week’s ₹94.93. In all, 96 per cent of the offer of 9.42 lakh kg was sold. In the CTC Dust tea auction, Darmona Estate’s Red Dust, auctioned by Paramount Tea Marketing, topped when Antony Tea Traders bought it for ₹201 a kg. Darmona Estate’s Super Fine Dust (₹194) and Super Red Dust (₹193) are the top price fetchers. In the CTC Leaf tea auction, Homedale Estate’s Broken Pekoe, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped fetching ₹190. In the orthodox market, Kodanad topped at ₹225 a kg followed by Havukal ₹222, Kairbetta ₹221 and Chamraj ₹220.
