Masoor and chana prices crashed as traders looked to book profit at higher prices on Friday.
Masoor prices that had soared to Rs 3,650 a quintal on Thursday declined to Rs 3,550-3,600. Masoor (medium) was quoted steady at Rs 3,350-3,400. Masoor (bold) that had increased by almost Rs 200 a quintal in the past week, saw a correction after reaching Rs 3,650.Mr Sanjay Bansal, a local trader, said that sluggishness in pulses is a routine affair every year ahead of ` Somwati Amawasya' that falls on Monday.
Masoor dal, on the other hand, ruled higher on improved buying support. Masoor dal (average) was quoted at Rs 4,075-4,100 a quintal, masoor dal (medium) at Rs 4,175-4,200 and masoor dal (bold) at Rs 4,275-4,300.
Chana declined by Rs 100 a quintal. Chana (kanta) slipped to Rs 4,225-4,250 (Rs 4350-75) in the spot, while chana desi ruled at Rs 4,150-4,175. Decline in arrival and enthusiastic buying support from the millers had pushed chana prices in the past one week by almost Rs 300 a quintal. Chana dal remained unchanged with chana dal (average) being quoted at Rs 5,225-5,250 a quintal, chana dal (medium) at Rs 5,325-5,350 and chana dal (bold) at Rs 5,475-5,500.
