Spot turmeric prices in Erode markets increased on Thursday on the back of quality arrivals.
“As the quality of arrivals was good, the price increased by ₹350 a quintal in the Regulated Market Committee and ₹300 at the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society," said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
He said the sale also increased. Of the 2,600 bags that arrived, 1,510 were sold. Still the demand for export variety was very poor.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹3,396-6,294 a quintal and the root variety at ₹3,069-5,699.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety fetched ₹5,616-7,005; the root variety ₹5,080-5,881. Of the 737 bags on sale, 290 were traded.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,419-6,631 and the root variety ₹5,276-6,108. Of the 588 bags on offer, 528 were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,599-6,699 and the root variety ₹5,319-6,089. All the 777 bags found takers.
