Active participation of regional blenders lifted prices of good liquoring tea varieties at Kochi auctions this week. However, arrivals was low in the auction and prices of other tea categories was irregular and lower.
The quantity on offer in CTC dust was 10,43,00 kg in sale number 16 and there was improved demand from upcountry buyers and loose tea traders. Exporters operated with lower levels, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.
In orthodox dust, primary grades was dearer, witnessing an active participation of exporters. The quantity on offer was 3,500 kg.
In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹118-162, mediums quoted ₹99-137 and plain grades stood at ₹89-104.
In leaf category, the market for Nilgiri brokens, whole leaf and Fannings in orthodox grades was firm to dearer following quality. The quantity on offer was 1,54,500 kg.
In CTC leaf, the market for high-priced brokens were lower and witnessed lot of withdrawasl. The quantity on offer was 68,000 kg.
Monica SFD quoted the best prices in dust varieties at ₹162 followed by Puduthottam SFD/SRD at ₹156. Chamraj FOP came to top in leaf category, quoting ₹441/431.
