Continued selling pressure pulled down spot pepper prices sharply on Monday. Pepper arrivals were on the rise and because of low bulk density they were being traded at lower levels. 500 GL Wayanad pepper went for ₹600/kg, while High Range pepper of 550-555 GL fetched ₹615-625. On the terminal market, 41 tonnes were traded. Spot prices fell further by ₹500 a quintal to ₹61,400 (ungarbled) and ₹64,400(garbled). February and March contracts on the IPSTA remained unchanged at ₹64,000 and ₹63,000 a quintal. Export prices were at $9,775 a tonne c&f for Europe and $10,025 for the US.
