Supply squeeze pushed up the spot pepper prices further on Wednesday. Availability is less and the old pepper arriving from the High Ranges albeit in small volumes, contained 10-15 per cent new pepper, market sources told BusinessLine .
On the terminal market, six tonnes were traded at prices ranging between ₹640 and ₹675 a kg. Spot prices moved up by ₹100 a quintal to ₹65,900 (ungarbled) and ₹68,900 (garbled). Janaury contract on the IPSTA increased by ₹1,000 a quintal to ₹70,000, while February and March remained unchanged at ₹67,000 and ₹62,000. Export prices were at $10,400 a tonne c&f for Europe and $10,650 for the US.
