Tracking a firming trend in global markets, silver moved up by Rs 173 to Rs 53,660 per kg at the futures trading today.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in March rose Rs 173 or 0.32 per cent to Rs 53,660 per kg with a business turnover of 4,624 lots. Likewise, May contract traded higher by Rs 163 or 0.3 per cent to Rs 54,821 per kg with a trade volume of 139 lots.

Market analysts said reports of a firming trend overseas as the euro advanced after European finance ministers boosted their anti-crisis efforts by pledging extra funding to the International Monetary Fund and upbeat US economic data, supported the rise in silver prices at the futures trade.
