The price of the hybrid finger turmeric decreased on Friday as there was no upcountry demand.

“We are not receiving fresh demand from the North India, so we are placing tenders for lower price in all the four sales markets. Due to the arrival of medium and poor quality turmeric, especially the hybrid finger turmeric, the price decreased by ₹100-200 a quintal. The hybrid finger was down ₹250,” said traders.

On Friday, the hybrid was sold at ₹7,200 a quintal – this is ₹250 less than previous market. Of the 3,400 bags that arrived, only 40 per cent stocks were sold.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety was sold at ₹4,036-6,369 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,009-6,104.

Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,863-7,200 and the root variety ₹5,639-6,407. Of the 808 bags on sale, 78 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric quoted ₹5,427-6,445; the root variety ₹5,369-6,211. Of the 680 bags put up for sale, 366 were traded .

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,614-6,469 and the root variety ₹5,209-6,219. All the 853 bags found takers.
