Small cardamom markets were ruling steady on matching demand and supply. Export buying provided strength to the market and that in turn has kept the prices steady despite slow buying by domestic dealers, PC Punnoose, General Manager, CPMC, told BusinessLine .

Around one-third of the dealers/traders have been active in the market, while the rest have completely slowed down, he said.

Exporters have bought an estimated 150 tonnes of exportable variety capsules last week, he said. Arrivals were reasonably good. The harvesting is coming to a close this month leaving 10 -15 per cent of the estates which may have some more to be picked, small and medium growers in Peerumedu taluk said.

Last week, the arrivals stood at 503 tonnes as against 190 tonnes the week before. The individual auction average was vacillating between ₹1,190 and ₹1,240 a kg.

Total arrivals during the season from August 1 up to December 17 were at 9,360 tonnes and sales were at 8,842 tonnes. The individual auction average for the season as on December 17 stood at ₹1,058.09/kg.

Prices in ₹/kg : 8mm bold good colour 1,500-1,600 ; 7-8 mm 1,350-1,400; 6-7 mm 1,250-1,300 and below 6 mm: 1,100-1,200.
