Spot pepper prices moved up on non-availability of farm grade pepper due to sellers’ withdrawal following the currency shortage. Industry buyers were looking for high bulk density material but there were no supply from the primary markets. Hence, there was neither any arrival nor any off take on the terminal market. Spot prices were up ₹200 a quintal to ₹65,500 (ungarbled) and ₹68,500 (garbled). High Range sellers were offering their produce at ₹690-695 a kg. December, January and February contracts on the IPSTA, however, remained unchanged at ₹67,000, ₹59,000 and ₹56,000 a quintal. Export prices were at $10,600 a tonne c&f for Europe and $10,850 for the US.
