Buoyancy prevailed at Sale 23 of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) auctions, which concluded on Friday with as much as 91.22 per cent of the offer being sold despite the average price rising to over a year-high level.
Both the leaf and dust markets were strong. The leaf tea grades fetched an average price of ₹101.73 a kg against ₹97.79 in the previous sale.
The dust tea grades fetched an average price of ₹95.91 a kg against ₹90.81 in the previous week. Collectively, the average price at this week’s auction rose to ₹99.70 from the previous week’s ₹95.55.
This was the highest average price for over a year, the previous high being ₹100.77 fetched on April 26, 2019. Increased demand was felt for medium and plainer grades but the demand for high-priced teas was limited.
