Amidst low arrivals and subdued demand from blenders, tea prices, especially high-priced ones, remained flat at Kochi auctions.

In sale no 48, the market for high-priced teas in CTC dust barely remained steady and tended to ease following quality. It also witnessed some withdrawals. However, medium and plainer teas was firm to dearer, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said. The quantity on offer was 8,12,202 kg. The average price realised in CTC dust was ₹126.43/kg compared to previous week's ₹125.72.

The prices of high-priced teas in orthodox dust was also lower, while the remainder sold around last levels. The quantity on offer was 11,000 kg. Exporters were the main stakeholders.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹127-179, medium grades were quoted at ₹102-133 and plain grades at ₹94-107.

In leaf category, the market for select best Nilgiri brokens and whole leaf in orthodox grades was firm to dearer. The quantity on offer was 2,38,688 kg. Others were irregular and lower, and witnessed some withdrawals.

In CTC leaf, the market for all varieties was fully firm to dearer by ₹2 to ₹3 and sometimes more. The quantity on offer was 38,000 kg. There was an active participation of upcountry buyers.

Monica SFD quoted the best prices of ₹180 in dust varieties, while Chamraj FOP came to the top in leaf grades, quoting ₹231.
